Cirque and Alps offer innovative new touch interface for Audi’s latest premium sedan.

Salt Lake City, UT - In the 2011 Audi A8, Cirque and Alps Automotive have launched a new generation of driver/machine interaction through touch. Audi’s premium sedan is the first production automobile to feature a capacitive touchpad as an integral component of the driver interface. Powered by Cirque touch technology and produced by Alps Automotive, the Audi touchpad module makes interacting with advanced vehicle systems fast, efficient and safe.

The conveniently located touchpad can be used for changing radio presets and interacting with the vehicles Multi Media Interface (MMI) system. Menu selections are easily made by cursoring on the touchpad, and navigating maps and menus has never been easier.

The most innovative feature of the A8’s touchpad is the character recognition system. Users simply trace letters on the touchpad service to quickly search for locations, contacts and other information stored in the MMI. Previously methods for entering characters like rotating dials, button combinations, etc. are slow and can be distracting to the driver. This system can recognize a wide variety of languages and provides a safe way for drivers and passengers to interact with the A8’s advanced systems.

As automobiles become increasingly advanced, so will their input systems. Cirque and Alps are continuing to develop new and innovative ways to use touch technology in automotive systems.
